18 years ago today, my husband and I were blessed with the opportunity to join our extended church family from First Presbyterian Church, Pottstown, on our second hurricane recovery mission trip to Pascagoula, Mississippi. It was shocking to witness that three years after Hurricane Katrina, the Gulf Coast was still inundated in destruction. These mission trips are important to us as members of the faith community, because there is a palpable meaning and spirituality in working alongside our sisters and brothers that is impossible to replicate in our everyday work lives. The homeowners that we work for feel it, too, and we can leave each place knowing that aside from building houses, we helped build hope and love in a struggling community. #FlashbackFriday #missionwork #giveback #presbyteriandisasterassistance #outofchaoshope ... An Architect's job (at least for one in a small business) is not just designing the projects, but also getting the projects. Part of our work day is spent meeting with potential clients, assembling the design team, writing budgets and fee proposals, and following up on questions about services and contracts. Today, we attended a very interesting walkthrough of an abandoned ca. 1856 hotel, which the owner wants to rehabilitate into apartments. This is a unique property, which is going to take some special care to bring back to life. In the coming weeks, our design team will be collaborating to determine how we can best help the property owner achieve his goals.#ontheboardsthursday #historicrehabilitation #adaptivereuse #buildingrestoration #farmersanddrovers ... Did you know...? Cladding is the protective outer layer of a building wall that contributes to weather resistance, thermal value, and aesthetic. Cladding can take the form of many materials, including vinyl or wood siding, stone, brick, stucco, EIFS, metal panels, fiber cement, and even insulated panels. While the type of cladding chosen for a building usually comes down to budget and availability, the selection of materials, profiles, patterns, and colors can create an exciting opportunity to make your home or business as traditional or unique as you'd like. #wednesdaywisdom #cladding #BuildingExterior #wallfinish #ArchitecturalDetails #siding #masonrywalls ... This week in project history, we were wrapping up pricing documents for a new day spa in an existing tenant space. This was a particularly interesting project that called for sensory deprivation float tanks, which required extensive soundproofing around the treatment rooms for a fully immersive spa experience.#FlashbackFriday #dayspa #floattank #SpaExperience #RelaxAndUnwind ...
